Sleeping in Suburbia
August - December 202

Sleeping in Suburbia explores an unnoticed and unsourced sense of danger in a quiet suburb.

I photographed as I biked around my neighborhood with friends, strangers, or alone. Mostly, I was just curious to see what I would find. An abandoned bike lying on a floor of leaves, men smoking hookah at an elementary school, a muddy river behind the school.
I took photos of things that interested me: beautifully quiet ordinary happenings.

Despite being in my hometown, in each shot, I felt like an outsider. So, I relied on others, objects, lights, to lead me through this unfamiliar familiar place, evoking a theme of exploration and discovery. The
people in the photos seem to have conquered the strangeness of their landscape.
